Hermès Crocodile HAC

images: Ebay

The Hermès HAC (Haut a Courroies) in Miel (Honey) Porosus Crocodile with Palladium Hardware is an incredibly rare find. These examples are often created for window displays and are only available to VIPs as Special Orders, and may still require years to produce. Porosus Crocodile skins, considerd the finest in the world, are notoriously hard to find in larger sizes and rarer still are the several which match sufficiently to create this iconic Hermès bag. While this 40cm bag is considered a travel bag, it is not so large that it cannot be carried daily. The HAC is the original late 1800s bag design whose modern descendants include both the Kelly and the Birkin.

omg, this is half the price the other 40 croc HAC we dissected at tPF. would you be getting it since it's "cheaper"? hahahaha

I spy an exotic to the right. Sneaky. What are you going to do with all your agendas?

OMG!! This 40 HAC are just to die for! But i'm a little scared of the crocodile skin for a daily use. HAC in leather are a strong piece, in crocodile skin it's stronger! Perhaps just to show off.
If i had to buy a HAC in exotic leather, i'll take the ostrich leather in black.

Question : in ur comments on other blogs u used to write in french (as tres chic), do u speak french?

Eclair, I do not speak French. I just throw in the occasional phrase.

Allan, I'm afraid that this is still way out of my budget. I don't use most of my agendas, but I love them just the same. I prefer the Vision size because they can double as checkbook covers.

Love your blog and your posts on tPF =) I hope it's ok to ask a silly question? The way the handles are attached to the bag seem to differ vastly. Like with this HAC the sewn part is very very flat, and on some bags it's more sort of full (can't describe it better, sorry). Is it because the methods of attaching the handles have developed or the part being attached has changed shape?

Thank you for any answer and indulging an anonymous lurker =)

Anonymous, I understand your observation and I believe that it is specific to the skin used. I don't think they "pad" the handle bases, so that, if it is a calfskin, it would be flatter, than say an adult bull hide, which is much thicker. The handles are layered, so that will not vary as much.

Good observation.
