I went back and forth over what to wear to my friend's birthday dinner. I ended up in a Dries Van Noten sweater, Rag & Bone jeans, Paul Smith shoes, Dries Van Noten belt and Alexander McQueen scarf. I couldn't make up my mind about the scarf until the last minute. Which do you prefer?

What to wear to a birthday dinner?

not that scarf. maybe a cotton losange? :p
I would definitely say without the scarf as it says summer dressy casual. The scarf is nice, but I find that they are suited for Autumn/Winter and look better with a collared shirt.
You still look good, just prefer no scarf.
You have great style! Tres chic! And btw, is that your wardrobe? If it is, then I envy you...
I forgot to mention that the scarf is very lightweight silk and cotton. In any event, I didn't wear the scarf, so it looks like everyone agrees.
Paolo, yes it is my wardrobe behind me, but I am standing in our bedroom, not a giant walk in closet, which is my fantasy.
In fact, the scarf added another dimension to your look, a knit over jeans is a daily look, however, with the scarf it has a 'wow' factor, whether people love it or hate it, it draws attention! And that is the whole point to fashion, to create interest as an individual form of taste.
