I have always admired the work of Belgian designer Ann Demeulemeester, with her consistent commitment to a dark aesthetic. I managed to snag this military inspired Black wool and silk Gilet with antiqued brass buttons on sale at Barneys NY. The vintage romantic mood and amazing cut conjured images of medieval knights. I was convinced that the it would be a versatile classic to add to my wardrobe. The drapey fabric is perfect over a t-shirt, sweater or even a tailored button down shirt. This unique layering piece feels right under a blazer, leather jacket or long coat. The funnel neck is cleverly lined in the most luxurious silk.

Good call with Demeulemeester. You can either totally buy into the romantic/goth asthetic, or use pieces as you do to add interest to a more conventional wardrobe. Her latest collection has taken a cleaner more mininal direction - but that's just the show photos, really need to see it in the shops.
love the vintage look of the metal buttons
