Pleats Please Phillip Lim

images: barneys.com

I hate to be the one to tell you, but pleats are back. Yes, those baggy pants of the 80s have returned. What did you think was going to happen when skinny jeans reached saturation point? But, don't think you can just drag out those ancient pants from the back of your closet. When trends are recycled by designers, there is always a new twist. Phillip Lim has added a self belt, trim silhouette, cuff and the most important elements: a lower rise and cropped length. These carrot shaped pants are the silhouette of the moment, making a button down, tee or tank look fresh this Spring.

Available at Barneys here. $295 USD.

I am not going to embrace the comeback of the pleats. They always create an embarrassing bulge when one is seated. No, I am not excited, it merely the cut of the cloth.

LOLz. New silhouettes are filled with challenges.

I'm happy to see designers are taking the pleat and reinventing it to fit the style conscious. I have never been a fan of pleats but the single pleat (one on each side) is very appealing. I wonder what the hand of the fabric must feel like?
